Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. This means Mother’s Day takes place on Sunday May 9 in 2021, and on Sunday May 8 in 2022.

Mother’s Day origin

Mother worship dates back thousands of years to ancient Greece, but the origins of Mother's Day as we celebrate it lie in the United States. Mother’s Day was first celebrated in the United States in 1908, initiated by Anna Jarvis. In the Netherlands we have been celebrating Mother's Day since 1925.

In the Netherlands Mother’s Day is celebrated by showing appreciation for your mother. Traditionally this is done with cards, flowers, chocolates, presents and breakfast in bed.
